You are not alone, join us and #HarvestAtHome

As many of us are following the stay at home guidelines, we remain connected to our guerrilla gardening community. During this difficult time we see bright spirits and strong fighters in the food justice movement.  We wanted to showcase the people who have stepped up and continued caring for our earth and each other at home by growing their own food. So, we have created instagram campaign  #HarvestAtHome to promote gardening indoors, keep our community connected and provide gardening tips and inspirations.

Take Ron Finley for example, LA’s Gangsta Gardener, an established guerrilla gardener who continues to be especially active during this time, demonstrating ways to re-purpose old containers (even a used chip bag) to grow food, and germinating a mango seed. He reminds us of the value of food, saying that “we can’t eat money and diamonds”.

Other notable gardening tips include a way to easily harvest your own strawberry seeds through a fun colorful video from our founder @vanessaharden. You can also learn how to recycle beer cans to reuse as planters @mountainmama33 and re-grow food from food scraps in a DIY hanging planter to outsmart your pet cat from @caitygebs. And finally some gardening tips for things you can grow from seed indoors like spinach from @migztatz and pointers for starting seeds at home (on a heater!).

All of the tips are helpful and inspiring but the best part about this is campaign is watching people experience the joy of gardening and bringing food sovereignty to their own lives and their community in a fun and accessible way. We ask that you join our campaign and together we can encourage people to help embrace indoor gardening and its many benefits at this time.
